David M Biography
We seem to have caught Dave (Stool Spice) in a rusty ole' shack looking for coupons in the Wednesday salepaper. What will become of the newspaper after he's finished? Hmmm? We talked to Dave on location at the rusty ole' shack and found out Dave's life story ... abridged life story.
Like all the other musicians in FreezeDried, Dave was born in the 1900s. He chose a totally different day for his birth which was June 26, 1963. Growing up in Chicago and neighboring suburbs, Dave took up clarinet lessons after finding out the fiddle wasn't his calling. He found himself taping a lot of music off the radio and would constantly play along on his clarinet. His parents were very much into R&B and fifties music. The first song he remembers as a kid was "The Wanderer" by Dion. His grandmother, however, was the one who got him interested in polka music. Dave used to dig through many polka albums in his grandmother's collection. Lil Richard was Dave's first live polka experience and was very influential on the young stick guru.
Dave plays pretty much any instrument with a reed. We also see him often with a tamborine as well. Through his many years of being a professional musician, Dave has played with Chicago's Milwaukee Avenue (CMA), Windy City Brass, Stas Golonka and the Chicago Masters, the Ampol Aires, and several other Chicago bands. He's working on writing many musical numbers, but all are unfinished.
Dave is single and currently living (near the rusty ole' shack) in Elmwood Park. He's funding the shack by working in the Pharmaceutical industry sampling as much as possible. Dave's loves the independent life ... which comes in handy for such hobbies as going out to hear live music, computers and computer games, hanging out at the coffee houses and book stores. Try doing that while married!
Dave seemed to be looking a little flush, so we bid him adieu until the next FreezeDried gig. Thanks for the interview Dave. Don't forget to finish the paperwork when you're finished.
